Los Angeles, CA – Viza is preparing to release its highly anticipated newest work titled “Made in Chernobyl” at a special CD release party on Saturday July 31, 2010 at the Troubadour at 9:30 pm. This feature length album represents Viza’s most aggressive and adventurous writing to date, broadening the band’s experimental tendencies.
“The band is very pleased to announce that Viza fans need not wait any longer for ‘Made in Chernobyl’”, stated frontman K’noup. “We are sure that this album will resonate with audiences around the globe,” he added.
Created as a musical satire and artistic critique of the Chernobyl disaster, “Made in Chernobyl” represents the culmination of a passionate creative process that marks the band’s growth and development as a unit. The album will be released days before Viza embarks on an international tour this August as the opening act for Serj Tankian’s performances abroad in Armenia, Greece, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy.
Managed by System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian’s label Serjical Strike, Viza has already completed a string of sold-out performances in 2010 and is looking forward to its upcoming shows overseas. Over the past few months, Viza has begun to offer fans a taste of new selections, blending new works with favorites from previous albums such as “Violins”, “Janna” and “Cat’s Eye”. Nonetheless, most of “Made in Chernobyl” will be a new experience for fans old and new.
With songs like “Viktor”, “Uzbek Brothel”, and “Mona Lisa”, the album offers listeners a collection of pieces both frantic and melodic, both dizzying and serene. “What you get is a record which is an emotional rollercoaster. I’m very proud of us as a unit and proud to say ‘Made In Chernobyl’ is our best work to date,” stated percussionist Chris Daniel.
“This album is an evolution of the band’s sound and style,” stated oud player Andrew Kzirian. “But at the same time, we are still keeping things grounded in our personalities and inherent musical impulses – it’s a new chapter,” he added.
Drummer Hiram Rosario stated that “’Made In Chernobyl’ will be the ‘story of my life’ album that everyone’s been looking for – hard charging, thought provoking, in your face and balls out rock!”.
“This album is an explosive and exhilarating experience that grabs you from the start and never lets you go,” commented bass player Alex Khatcherian, while guitarist Shant Bismejian felt that ‘Made in Chernobyl’ “is one of the most exciting and challenging creative experiences I have been a part of – it’s a completely different side of Viza which is going to surprise many.”
Guitarist Orbel Babayan, alluding to the album’s critique of Chernobyl’s irony, remarked that the music on “Made in Chernobyl” is like “a mutated creature that is so deformed that it’s beautiful.”
