Check these articles published by the Armenian Weekly, Armenian Reporter and the Mirror Spectator discussing Viza and our May shows in New York City and Philadelphia.
So today I walk out of my Corporate Finance exam at school and of course – right in front of me – is a huge mural of an oud player and someone who appears to be “Sheker Mary” (Sugar Mary) singing at a nightclub in the 1950s. I read the notes – and yes it is an Armenian oud player and it is Sheker Mary. Turns out there is a photo exhibit at Columbia detailing Jan Yoors’ work (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Yoors – Flemish American photographer, artist, sculptor, etc. who spent lots of time with Romanies) and one of his murals discusses the Armenian 8th Avenue music scene and mentions the Armenian Genocide.
Very interesting.
